Briscola to confirm promise of Kempton run – Chelmsford 23/11/2017

The 6.30 at Chelmsford on Thursday is the Weatherby’s Stud Book EBF Novice Stakes for two-year-olds.

Gosden doubly represented at Chelmsford

John Gosden saddles two runners here with Briscola and the newcomer Hasanoanda. Briscola is the form horse, a filly by Redoute’s Choice out of a mare by Sadler’s Wells. She ran very green on her racecourse debut when finishing a remote last of nine at Newmarket in August.

Despite being slowly away, she made progress on the inside with two furlongs to travel to finish second to Lush Life. The form is difficult to assess but there were a couple of well-fancied fillies in behind. Briscola has an extra furlong to run at Chelmsford and should go well under Robert Havlin.

Nicky Mackay rides Hasanoanda, a colt by Champs Elysees out of a mare by Indian Ridge. He cost 31,000 guineas a yearling and runs in the colours of Ms Rachel Hood. Josephine Gordon rides Blacklooks for Ivan Furtado, a gelding by Society Rock. He sprang a 20-1 surprise when beating Rainbow Ridge at Leicester in October. He showed a tendency to hang that day and that trait cost him victory at Nottingham next time. Blacklooks was in front when running out to his left with only 100 yards to travel. He escapes a penalty but looks fully exposed and could prove to be a difficult ride.

De Sousa rides Best Blue at Chelmsford

Michael Bell has booked Silvestre de Sousa to partner Best Blue. He is a colt by Oasis Dream out of Filia Regina by Galileo. The dam was by Galileo out of the brilliant Ouija Board and won over a mile and three-quarters. Best Blue made some progress at Nottingham before fading back into ninth place on his debut. It would be no surprise to see an improved performance at Chelmsford.

Luca Cumani is represented by the unraced Msaikah, a filly by Galileo out of a Quest For Fame mare. She cost 300,000 guineas a yearling and will be ridden by Luke Morris. The stable have won with two of their last three runners this week and the market will be a good guide to Msaikah’s chances.

Jack Mitchell rides Noble Expression for Roger Varian, a colt by Sir Percy. He has not shown a great deal in races at Leicester and Kempton, most recently finishing sixth to Bow Street.
