EBF Stallions Dick Hern Stakes Preview – Haydock 12/08/2017

The 3.35 at Haydock Park on Saturday is the Listed EBF Stallions Dick Hern Stakes for fillies and mares aged three years and upwards.

Sea Of Grace the class performer at Haydock

William Haggas saddles the clear form horse here in Sea Of Grace, runner-up in the French 1000 Guineas. The daughter of Born To Sea led entering the final furlong but could not repel the challenge of Precieuse. The going was very testing at Deauville that day and she did not have her favoured conditions at Newmarket next time.

Sea Of Grace took her chance in the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes but could finish no better than fourth to Roly Poly. She was not suited by the going or the pace that day and could never land a blow. This looks an ideal opportunity for her to get back to winning ways.

Sir Michael Stoute saddles Mittens who was a slightly disappointing fifth at Ascot last time out. That was in a Listed race behind On Her Toes, a stable companion of the favourite. She also stayed on in the closing stages and was forced to challenge out wide. A better display is anticipated on Saturday.

Improving Queen Of Time has each-way claims

David O’Meara saddles Lincoln Rocks, a four-year-old filly by Rock Of Gibraltar. She has won six of her twenty races including a Listed race at Pontefract in July. She has been beaten into second place in both subsequent starts at Newbury and Goodwood. Lincoln Rocks handles easier ground well and has each-way claims at Haydock.

Queen Of Time is a three-year-old filly by Harbour Watch trained by Henry Candy. She was a very creditable fourth to Con Te Partiro at Royal Ascot in June. She then ran a good race behind Tisbutadram at Sandown in a Listed contest. The filly has continued to improve since getting off the mark in a Goodwood maiden in May.

Luca Cumani’s Materialistic is a four-year-old by Oasis Dream out of Pongee by Barathea. She has won two of her nine races and has been placed in Listed company. Her recent form figures do not look inspiring but she was not beaten far at Ascot last time. Adam Kirby held her up at the rear of the field and she was only beaten two and three-quarter lengths.
