Hyperion Stakes Preview and Betting Tips – Belmont 17/06/2017

Race 7 at Belmont on Saturday is the Group 3 $150,000 Hyperion Stakes over 1600m.

Scales Of Justice odds-on favourite for Hyperion Stakes

Bookmakers have installed Lindsey Smith’s Group 1 winner Scales Of Justice as the odds-on favourite. The four-year-old gelding is a son of Not A Single Doubt is drawn nicely in barrier five of the ten runners.

Scales Of Justice won the Group 1 Railway Stakes over 1600m in November. He then finished a close second to Stratum Star in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic over 1800m. Scales Of Justice was given a lengthy break before returning to chase home Rock Magic in the Group 3 Belmont Sprint. He looks head and shoulders above his rivals at Belmont and is trading at around the 1.50 mark.

Scales Of Justice is unbeaten in two races over the distance and he’ll be sharper for his run in the Belmont Sprint. He was drawn on the outside of the twelve runner field that day.

Williams team run three in Hyperion Stakes

His only serious market rival is the Belmont Sprint third Disposition. The five-year-old is trained by Grant and Alan Williams and will be partnered by William Pike. He had finished well beaten in the Railway Stakes and the Kingston Town Classic but improved markedly last time. He will break from barrier eight and should give the favourite a run for his money.

The Williams team also saddle I’m Feeling Lucky and Zarantz, starting from barriers one and seven respectively. The former faced an impossible task from a wide draw in the Group 3 Roma Cup over 1200m in May. She was draw 15 of 16 that day and trailed home in last place.

She is yet to recapture her brilliant form of last year when she rattled off four consecutive victories. The daughter of Bletchley Park also finished second in the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic over 1400m.

I’m Feeling Lucky is something of a Belmont specialist with four wins and two places on the track from 11 starts. She also impressed in a recent Lark Hill trial with a six lengths win. Zarantz bids to back up a victory over two miles at Ascot in April. The six-year-old son of Choisir is dropping down in distance but has been consistent over a mile.
