Integral set to repeat Duke Of Cambridge victory
Sir Michael Stoute has won the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot four times in eleven years and saddles two runners on Wednesday with Integral and Bragging. The race is confined to fillies and mares of four years and upwards over a mile and is due off at 3.40 on Wednesday.
The form of the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury is working out exceptionally well with Arod (third) and Cable Bay (fifth) both winning since. Integral finished a close fourth in that race on her seasonal debut and she bids to repeat last year’s victory in this race.
The daughter of Dalakhani has been a model of consistency throughout her career with six wins and three places from her twelve starts. Her only disappointments have been over ten furlongs at Goodwood and in heavy ground at Ascot. She always looked to be going best in this race last year before sweeping through to beat L’Amour De Ma Vie by two lengths. She followed up by beating Rizeena in the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket.
She acts well on good to firm ground and looks sure to give Ryan Moore a good ride. Pat Smullen will partner Bragging who progressed through handicaps last year before finishing second in a Group 3 at Doncaster. She was a workmanlike winner at Newmarket in May but ran very flat behind Secret Gesture at York.
Veteran Trainer Clive Brittain will be hoping that Rizeena can make it four out of four visits to Ascot. The four-year-old won the Queen Mary as a two-year-old after winning her maiden here. She returned last summer to win the Coronation Stakes but needs to put a poor run at Newmarket behind her.
Euro Charline is a high-class filly and won the Grade 1 Beverly D Stakes at Arlington last August. She was having her first run since when fourth behind Solow at Meydan in March. The original plan had been for her to stay with Todd Pletcher in American but a minor injury forced connections to re-think and she is back with Marco Botti.
French raiders are always worthy of respect and Cladocera bids to redeem her reputation after finishing sixth in that Meydan race. She had won her previous two races in Dubai and will be ridden here by Christophe Soumillon. She has to carry a Group 2 penalty here but Integral looks the one to be on.
