Kevin Kisner the value bet in Greenbrier Classic
Graham DeLaet (tipped here at 67.0) finished in the money last week at the Travelers Championship. That gave us a tidy 11-point profit on the event and the US PGA Tour now moves on to the Greenbrier Classic in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
Bubba Watson eventually prevailed after beating Paul Casey in a play-off. Backing golfers for back-to-back tournament victories can be the fast road to the poor house but it may be worth noting that Watson has a house close by. This is one of the most popular venues on the Tour and Watson has made the top thirty on both previous tournament visits and is a regular visitor. Casey also makes a quick return to action but this will be his first visit to White Sulphur Springs.
Tony Finau has slipped under most people’s radar while recording six consecutive top-25 finishes. That includes the top fifteen in the US Open and odds of around 36.0 look tempting. He’s clearly relishing his rookie year and could be a live contender this week. Previous winner Scott Stallings and defending champion Angel Cabrera are both out of form and are difficult to fancy.
Our long shot this week is Jon Curran who narrowly missed out on qualification for the Open Championship at the Travelers. He finished in a tie for tenth after three rounds of 67 and a closing 69 and has been in good form for a while. He was also sixth in Texas and could hit the frame at a big price.
One player who continues to hover around the top of the leaderboard is Kevin Kisner. He has been in the top twelve in his last three events and has twice finished runner-up this summer. His turn cannot be too far away.
Webb Simpson invariably plays well here with three top tens in four visits. He has to be on the short list this week while George McNeill could be value at 41.0. He played superbly here last year finished with a phenomenal round of 61. That left him two shots short of Cabrera and a return to this course will bring back fond memories.
Bubba Watson is the bookies’ favourite at around 12.0 and you can get 26.0 and upwards against anybody else in the field.
