Liverpool v Chelsea Premier League Preview 25/11/2017

The late kick-off in the Premier League on Saturday features a clash between Liverpool and Chelsea at Anfield.

Both sides were in action in the Champions League this week. The Blues booked their place in the next round by beating 10-man Qarabag 4-0. Of more concern to manager Antonio Conte was the marathon eleven-hour round trip.

Conte has made a point of moaning about the Blues having a day less than their opponents to recover. Fortunately they were not extended to take the victory and he was able to make changes in the second half. The fact that he chose to bring on Morata suggests that his loan striker is still short of peak fitness.

Chelsea have won their last four EPL matches since suffering a shock defeat against Crystal Palace. They were not entirely convincing when beating Watford 4-2 but have looked a lot better since N’Golo Kante returned from injury. He will be a key player at Anfield as the Blues need to stem the pace of Liverpool on the counter-attack.

David Luiz returned to the side in Qarabag but is not a certain starter against Liverpool. Willian scored twice and created two penalty kicks. That probably won’t be enough to secure a place in the starting line-up for the Brazilian.

Jurgen Klopp’s side continue to delight and frustrate their supporters in equal measure. They stormed into a 3-0 lead in Sevilla but folded in the second-half to come away with a draw. Liverpool had won each of their previous four matches by a margin of three goals. That followed a 4-1 thrashing at Tottenham, a game which fully exposed Liverpool’s defensive frailties.

Despite some patchy form, a win for Liverpool on Saturday would leave them just one point below Chelsea. Both teams are well off the scorching pace being set by Manchester City in the title race. Chelsea know that a draw is never a bad result at Anfield and they will be wary of the pace of former Blues winger Salah.

The Egyptian has been in great form since joining Liverpool who also have other potential match winners in Coutinho and Mane. The former has not quite recaptured his brilliant form of last season but is improving week-by-week. This has the makings of a very tight encounter and a draw may be the value bet.
