Mr One More ready for step up in class – Ascot 24/11/2017

The 2.05 race at Ascot on Friday is a novice hurdle for four-year-olds and upwards over two miles.

Kayf Grace has to overcome lengthy absence

Nicky Henderson has chosen this race to launch the hurdling career of Aintree bumper winner Kayf Grace. The seven-year-old daughter of Kayf Tara has won three of her six races under rules including a Grade 2 National Hunt flat race at Liverpool.

The mare battled on strongly to repel the challenge of Augusta Kate by half a length. Kayf Grace did not reappear until December last year when winning comfortably at Bangor-on-Dee. She has not raced since and Nico de Boinville takes the reins at Ascot.

Lalor is the likely favourite, the winner of the same Aintree bumper this year for Richard Woollacott. He is a five-year-old gelding by It’s Gino out of a mare by Waky Nao. Lalor also has the advantage of having had a recent outing over hurdles. He was beaten a short-head by Onefortheroadtom at Exeter after being under pressure for the final quarter of a mile. The winner has been beaten since but the third horse boosted the form at Wincanton.

Geraghty aboard Mr One More at Ascot

The famous JP McManus colours are worn here by Barry Geraghty aboard the unbeaten Mr One More. Harry Fry has his stable in top form and is averaging a 38% strike rate over the past fortnight with ten winners. The son of Asian Heights won at Stratford in October without his rider having to be too hard on him. The form received a boost when runner-up Summerville Boy finished second in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham last week.

Alan King saddles William Hunter, three times on a winner on the flat. He was beaten only a short-head on his debut over hurdles at Plumpton recently. Parthenius got up late to catch him on the line after Wayne Hutchinson had kicked for home at the second last. William Hunter is a decent handicapper on the flat and looks capable of picking up races over timber.

Dr Des is a gelding by Double Eclipse out of a Rising mare and made a winning debut over hurdles at Stratford. He was placed in point-to-point races over three miles and will want a longer trip in time.
