The Rosebud Preview and Betting Tips – Rosehill 12/08/2017

The feature race at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday is the Listed Smithfield RSL Club Rosebud over 1100m.

Menari favourite for Rosebud

Menari has eased slightly in the betting this week but remains favourite at 3.10 with Ladbrokes. The son of Snitzel has been placed in both recent trials and is trained locally by Gerald Ryan. He looks the form horse if he can reproduce his Golden Slipper run and Joshua Parr takes the ride. He is drawn five in the eight runner field and should be able to tuck in just off the pace.

Siege Of Quebec is unbeaten in two starts for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and is second favourite. He is by Fastnet Rock and made a winning debut at Newcastle in June. He then went to Rosehill where he travelled well before quickening nicely to beat Calculated by half a length. Tim Clark will be in the saddle on Saturday and will break from barrier one.

Trekking is just behind the front two in the betting at 4.40 having been trimmed by a point in the betting. He won the Schweppes Plate over this distance at Rosehill in December. Trekking resumed when running a close second in the Group 3 Black Opal Stakes over 1200m. He was never a factor in the Golden Slipper but the son of Street Cry has trialled impressively and looks likely to be in the money. Brenton Avdulla has the leg-up on this one and is perfectly drawn in barrier two.

Shinn booked for Diamond Tathagata in Rosebud

Diamond Tathagata represents the Warwick Farm stable of Mark Newnham. He is by Hinchinbrook out of Maltese and won a recent trial at Randwick. All four of his races have been in heavy ground and it will be interesting to see how he performs on a faster surface.

Diamond Tathagata is a Group 2 winner and goes well fresh. He finished second to She Will Reign in the Inglis Nursey on his debut before resuming with a win in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes. He finished seventh in the Golden Slipper before his only disappointing run. His Randwick trial also featured Winx but not too much should be read into that. Winx is never asked to do a great deal in her trials and it is a policy which has clearly worked.

I Am Excited resumes after a Warwick Farm trial victory. David Pfeiffer’s Snitzel filly is stepping up in class after a Warwick maiden success. The same applies to Overshare who got off the mark in his third race at Canterbury.
