Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder Betting Preview
This BBL Sydney derby match promises to be an intriguing battle against two sides that have been in excellent form this season and will want to maintain momentum heading into the business end of the campaign.
Both sides will be keen to make a statement with the BBL play-offs edging closer. Last time out, Thunder returned to winning ways with an impressive success over Perth Scorchers while the Sixers edged a close battle with Adelaide Strikers to keep themselves at the top of the table.
It was the Sixers that also came out on top when these sides last met. That was a dramatic five-wicket win with the final ball at the Showground as Ben Dwarshuis bludgeoned his side to victory with some big tail-end hitting.
It is league leaders Sydney Sixers that are made favourites for this contest but the prices between the teams are still quite close. Much could come down to how the opening partnerships can perform with Steve Smith and David Warner adding experience for their sides next to partners that will have license to express themselves.
The continued improvement of Sam Konstas could win out over Josh Philippe, who is in desperate need of a bigger contribution after four single-figure efforts. If they can set the foundations for the Thunder’s middle order to shine then this could edge the way of the Thunder despite them being the bigger price. Sixers’ bowling attack looks the stronger once again, however, and that could be key to getting the job done.
Sixers vs Thunder Betting Tips and Predictions
Take a look at our top betting tips and predictions for this match. We consider recent form, potential line-ups, head-to-head records, and much more when highlighting our best bets for this fixture.

Thunder to Have Highest Opening Partnership
This may be another tough test for the Thunder, who are long overdue a win against their city rivals, but the opening partnership of David Warner and Sam Konstas could be a cause of optimism. With Josh Philippe struggling for form for the Sixers it could be worth backing Thunder’s mix of experience and youthful exuberance to come out on top in the battle of the openers. Backing Thunder to have the highest opening partnership at £1.90 with bet365 should be considered.Team News
Sydney Thunder will be without Daniel Sams for the remainder of the season after the all-rounder picked up a side injury in the same game he also suffered a horror fielding collision with team-mate Cameron Bancroft.
It looked like a concussion from that incident would be the reason for the early end to Sams’ campaign but instead it is a side injury that has now ruled him out.
A fractured shoulder blade and broken nose because of the same collision has already ended Bancroft’s BBL season.
Steve Smith remains available for the Sixers even though he won’t be available for the BBL play-offs. Kurtis Patterson is away with Australia A ahead of facing England Lions. English leg-spinner Jafer Chohan replaced Joel Davies against Adelaide but may not keep his place this time around. Jackson Bird could come back into the side.
Predicted Line-ups
Sixers: Philippe (wk), Smith, Henriques (c), Silk, Edwards, Davies, Dwarshuis, Kerr, Abbott, Murphy, Bird.
Thunder: Warner (c), Kostas, Gilkes, Billings (wk), Green, Garton, Agar, McAndrew, Andrews, Sangha, Hasnain.
