The Caulfield Cup is one of Australia’s most popular races. Not only will it provide some clues for the Melbourne Cup but it is a big contest in its own right. We have picked out our best betting tips below.
Odds for this race are available with the best Australian bookmakers. We looked at how bet365, Unibet and BlueBet have priced up the outright winner market.
As you can see, Gold Trip’s recent success in the Turnbull Stakes has catapulted last year’s Melbourne Cup hero into favoritism for this year’s Caulfield Cup. That said, it is a close affair at the head of the betting with West Wind Blows, Soulcombe, and Without A Fight considered serious players.
Odds will shift as the race nears so always double-check with your chosen bookie before confirming your bets.

The latest renewal of the Caulfield Cup looks an interesting one. Some horses could fire themselves into the Melbourne Cup picture while others will have this solely as their main target for now.
Last year’s Melbourne Cup winner Gold Trip swooped past the field to win the Turnbull Stakes on his last appearance and will carry top weight should he line up. He will have to fight off the challenges of West Wind Blows, Soulcombe, and Without A Fight if he does. The final field of 18 is already starting to take shape with the Mike Moroney-trained Gregolimo the only horse able to crash the party should he win the Coongy Cup this week.
West Wind Blows and Soulcombe were second and third respectively in the Turnbull Stakes, while Without A Fight was last seen down the field to Alligator Blood’s win at this track in September. Meanwhile, Montefilia came with a late run to nab Hoo Ya Mal at Rosehill under two weeks ago. All of those mentioned will appreciate this particular race distance but the final weights and barrier draw, which also takes place later this week, is worth keeping an eye on.
