Toorak Handicap Preview and Betting Tips – Caulfield 14/10/2017
Chris Waller saddles four runners in the $500,000 Group 1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday.
Egg Tart favourite for Toorak Handicap
Egg Tart will be joined in the race by stable companions Tom Melbourne, Comin’ Through and Omei Sword. Waller is yet to win the valuable Toorak Handicap but hopes will be high with his strong contingent.
Egg Tart was a late withdrawal from the Group 1 Epsom Handicap at Randwick due to an eye irritation. The daughter of Sebring has been re-routed for this event, her first run since finishing second in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes last month. She was successful in the Schweppes Oaks and Queensland Oaks last season. Egg Tart is undefeated at this distance and will be partnered by Damien Oliver on Saturday.
Waller also has major claims with Epsom Handicap runner-up Tom Melbourne. The seven-year-old has finished fourth in his last four outings but a wide draw in barrier fifteen is a concern. Comin’ Through (won the Group 3 Bill Ritchie Handicap two starts back before finishing sixth in the Epsom Handicap. The Waller team is completed by four-year-old High Chaparral filly Omei Sword, third in the Group 2 Golden Pendant Stakes last time.
Lindsay Park run six in Toorak Handicap
Team Hayes and Dabernig won the race last year and have six chances of repeating the success. Their runners are Seaburge, He Or She, Petrology, Jaquinot Bay, Sovereign Nation and Snitzon. The form pick appears to be the latter who was third to Happy Clapper in the Epsom Handicap. That certainly puts him right in alongside Tom Melbourne and he is more favourably drawn in ten.
Darren Weir saddles top weight Tosen Stardom who must overcome a wide draw in barrier sixteen. Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes third So Si Bon is drawn widest of all and Craig Newitt will have to perform wonders to win from there. I Am A Star won the Group 2 Stocks Stakes last time and is another to have been hit by a wide draw.
Kaspersky is an interesting runner from the Jane Chapple-Hyam stable. The six-year-old has been keeping top company in the UK this summer. He was far from disgraced when fifth under Michelle Payne at Royal Ascot. The son of Footstepsinthesand has since been placed in Group 2 and Group 3 company and could spring a surprise.
