Unowhatimeanharry returns in 188bet Hurdle – Aintree 11/11/2017

Unowhatimeanharry was regarded by many as one of the banker bets of last season’s Cheltenham Festival. Things did not go to plan, Harry Fry’s gelding suffering his only defeat in his last eleven races.

Unowhatimeanharry out to claim stayers’ title

He moved into second place approaching the last but could not quicken and finished third behind Nichols Canyon. The going may have been slightly on the quick side for him and he avenged that defeat at Punchestown. Nichols Canyon through down his challenge between the last two flights but Unowhatimeanharry fought back to win by a head.

Fry chose Newbury last year to launch the gelding’s season but has opted for Aintree this time. This will be the first time that Unowhatimeanharry has raced at Liverpool. He is officially rated 10lbs superior to his closest rival but must concede 8lbs to Top Notch on Saturday.

Nicky Henderson trains Top Notch, a French-bred six-year-old by Poliglote out of a mare by Pistolet Bleu. He has been a model of consistency, winning ten and being placed in six of his eighteen races. He was seen to good effect over hurdles last season having finished fifth in the Champion Hurdle the previous season. Top Notch was placed at both Cheltenham and Aintree festivals and is likely to return to the larger obstacles in due course. He is certainly good enough to expose any lack of fitness in the favourite.

Value At Risk tries to get career back on track

Dan Skelton has great faith in Value At Risk who was such a promising novice hurdler. He joined Skelton from Ireland in 2014 and bolted up by ten lengths on his debut for the yard. Value At Risk was second next time at Cheltenham before finishing fifth at the Festival.

He was switched to fences the following season but fell in his first two races. Value At Risk got back to winning ways when beating Wishing And Hoping in a novice chase at Bangor-on-Dee last year. He was well beaten in two races in the spring and this will be his seasonal debut.

Skelton fitted cheek-pieces to the son of Kayf Tara in those races with no obvious benefit. This looks a tough task as he bids to get his career back on the right track.
