Wissahickon can retain unbeaten record – Chelmsford 23/11/2017

The 7.00 race at Chelmsford on Thursday is a Conditions race for two-year-olds over ten furlongs.

Wissahickon odds-on favourite at Chelmsford

John Gosden saddles the odds-on favourite here in Wissahickon, a colt by Tapit out of No Matter What by Nureyev.

He made his debut at Wolverhampton when catching Craving in the last stride over an extended mile. He did not really hit top gear until the final stages that day and looks certain to relish the extra two furlongs. The runner-up has run well again since, finishing a neck second to Corelli at Wolverhampton on Saturday. Wissahickon is clearly an exciting prospect and this looks a useful stepping-stone to better things.

Sylvester Kirk’s Bubble And Squeak has finished runner-up in all four starts. She is a daughter of Mastercraftsman out of Comeback Queen by Nayef and will be ridden by Mitch Godwin. She was beaten a neck by West Palm Beach at Lingfield at the start of the month. Cecchini then beat her at Kempton before she was beaten half a length by Flora Sandes here last week. Bubble And Squeak is tough and consistent and will surely get off the mark before very long.

Lucky Deal represents Johnston at Chelmsford

Mark Johnston saddles Lucky Deal, also by Mastercraftsman out of Barter by Daylami. She ran in snatches on his debut at Redcar, losing his position before running on again at the finish. Lucky Deal was eventually beaten over seven lengths by I’m Improving. Johnston’s horses are usually ready to run first time but Lucky Deal looks certain to benefit from the experience.

Future Score completes the quartet, a Godolphin colt by Cape Cross out of Theola by Kalanisi. Saeed bin Suroor trains the colt who was only tenth of fourteen on his debut at Kempton last month. He was soon outpaced that day and the extra two furlongs should see him in a better light. Future Score would also benefit from a fast pace but that is not guaranteed in this small field.

There is no obvious pace-setter here and it will be interesting to see how the race unfolds. Havlin will not want the race to develop into a sprint and we can expect Wissahickon to be kept close to the pace.
