Zabeel Prince bids to defy 10lbs rise – York 13/10/2017
The 2.45 at York on Friday is a handicap over an extended seven furlongs for four-year-olds and upwards.
Cote D’Azur back in action at York
Les Eyre runs Cote D’Azur who was third in the Cambridgeshire Handicap at Newmarket last month. He led from the two furlong marker until headed well inside the final furlong. That was his first race since being gelded. The chestnut has won five of his 25 races but lost his form this summer. He races off a 3lbs higher mark than at Newmarket and will break from stall one.
The likely favourite here is Zabeel Prince, trained by Roger Varian and ridden by Silvestre de Sousa. The four-year-old gelding won a Nottingham maiden by three lengths in June. He did not reappear until last month when beating London by a similar margin at Yarmouth. He has been raised 10lbs by the handicapper but will enjoy the cut in the ground.
Zwayyan is up 6lbs for his neck victory over One Word More at Ascot last weekend. The Pivotal gelding may have been idling in the closing stages through inexperience. He was wearing blinkers for the first time and it will be interesting to see if they are as effective a second time.
Rachel Richardson aboard One Word More
Tim Easterby has booked Rachel Richardson to ride One Word More. The son of Thousand Words enjoys a healthy pull in the weights. He has only won three of his 42 races, the last of them being back in 2015.
Home Cummins has finished second in her last two outings for Richard Fahey. The five-year-old mare usually runs well at York and was runner-up here twelve months ago. She is only 1lb higher in the handicap and will be ridden by Paul Hanagan.
Lincoln Handicap winner Bravery has struggled for the remainder of the season for David O’Meara. He finished in midfield in the Cambridgeshire and looks held by Cote D’Azur. Highland Colori attempts to repeat last year’s victory for Andrew Balding. The nine-year-old ran well last time at Newmarket when fourth to Makzeem, winning the race on the far side. He has probably been aimed at this race for some time and is 10lbs lower in the weights than last year. Just Hiss and Baraweez are others to consider in a wide open race.
