How Does Dally M Betting Work?
Voting for the Dally M Medal winner lasts throughout the NRL season. After each game, sports commentators and analysts award three points to who they believe was the best player on the field. The second-best wins two points, while the third-best ends up with one.
The voting is public until the 16th round. After that, votes are kept secret. At the end of the regular season, the Dally M medal is awarded to the player with the highest personal score during a grand ceremony traditionally held in Sydney.
If suspended, a player suffers a penalty of 3 Dally M votes for each week away from the game.
Dally M Betting Tips
As the NRL season progresses, you’ll get a clearer picture of who will probably win the Dally M Medal. As such, the odds will be changing all the time as players hit top form or drop off their best levels. Once markets have been formed for this bet it will pay to keep checking shifts in prices of the key contenders.
Our 2022 selection, James Tedesco, was narrowly pipped for the honour by Nicho Hynes last time. Check back to see who we think can come out on top in 2023.
Picking the Dally M Medal winner is much easier said than done. The NRL season is full of ups and downs, so even if a player has a great start, it usually doesn’t mean he’s a certain winner, especially if injury strikes. That’s why we have consulted our NRL betting experts and asked them to come up with a few Dally M betting strategies. Scroll down to see what they say!
Set up your own points tally – After the voting becomes secret, you can set up your own tally and award points based on your best assumptions. This way, you can keep a close eye on the top players and pick your favourites with much greater certainty.
Follow Dally M judges – Find out who is giving votes this season and follow them on Twitter or read their newspaper columns. Even though the voting isn’t public, judges usually reveal their favourites before the season ends.
Don’t be afraid to back underdogs – If a player has a good run, you should consider backing him up even if he wasn’t a favourite at the start of the season. The narrative plays a huge role, so it’s not that uncommon for less popular players to take the award home.
