Alex Carey for Top Australia Batter

Odds of Alex Carey being Australia’s top batter in this match are longish at 7.00 with bet365. But this choice could really pay off, especially if the visitors’ top order does not fire. Carey should again be named in the XI in the absence of Inglis and could play a similar role in the middle order to the man he will replace. Earlier this year against South Africa, Carey was his team’s second-highest run-scorer. Bet on him to go one better this time despite his relative failure in this week’s first T20I when the slog was on.

Adam Zampa for Top Australia Bowler

Bet on leg-spinner Adam Zampa to be Australia’s top wicket-taker in this match. He is an enticing price at 4.33 with bet365 in this market. Conditions at the Bay Oval will likely suit seam more than they will spin again, but Zampa has so much experience and skill to succeed regardless. His last six T20Is have brought nine wickets – that’s an impressive enough ratio. He was economical but went without a wicket in this week’s first match. Now is his cue to strike.

Kyle Jamieson for Top New Zealand Bowler

Unibet’s price of 4.33 for Kyle Jamieson to be New Zealand’s leading wicket-taker in this match is a promising pick – these odds shortened a bit from match one to two. He was superb for the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League earlier this year and, evidently, has a new lease on his career after overcoming a long-term injury. Jamieson’s outright pace, coupled with clever slower deliveries, should be instrumental to his approach against a combative Australian batting unit. He would have learned a lot from a difficult time in the series opener.

New Zealand vs Australia 2nd T20I Betting Preview

New Zealand were relatively solid with the bat in the series opener, thanks largely to a superb century from the enterprising Tim Robinson. But they failed to follow this up with a good bowling performance. Australia capitalised and have an opportunity to seal an early series win here. Or will the Kiwis draw level?

The Black Caps and Aussies are without a few first-choice stars again, but in a jampacked schedule, this is a good opportunity to test their bench strength in the shortest format of the international game. This is bound to serve up some balanced contests.

This is again going to be a particularly big match for Tim David, who has done a great job in proving to fans and critics alike that he is more than just a finisher. Anticipate an important showing from him in the middle order, especially if the openers don’t succeed this time – they did well in the first match.

New Zealand will be happy to have Kyle Jamieson back in the mix again. He has been sidelined by injury, but has gradually been making his way back into the fray. The lanky fast bowler is a high-impact player. Short, two- or three-over bursts from him, for now, are key. But he will need quick improvement on his showing earlier this week.

Michael Bracewell will captain the home side again. It will be interesting to see if the additional responsibility of the captaincy limits or empowers his primary roles with the bat and ball. Bracewell is one of the best limited-overs all-rounders in New Zealand, but needs to evidence this in this middle T20I.

Australia will continue to plot their T20 plans going forward without Mitchell Starc. The left-arm fast bowler has retired from T20I cricket, but will keep going in ODIs and Tests. Ben Dwarshuis has the chance to impress again in the absence of his fellow southpaw seamer again. Dwarshuis is in the middle of a purple patch of form.

Team News

The Kiwis will remain without Mitchell Santner, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, Will O’Rourke, Finn Allen and Glenn Phillips for various reasons. They will likely bring in spinner Ish Sodhi for seamer Jacob Duffy, who was ineffective in the series opener.

Australia don’t have Glenn Maxwell or Josh Inglis, leaving Alex Carey to remind the national selectors of his T20 credentials with the gloves. Otherwise, anticipate an unchanged XI from the series-leading visitors. This will probably include the retention of Marcus Stoinis.

Predicted Line-ups

New Zealand: Tim Seifert (wicketkeeper), Devon Conway, Tim Robinson, Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, Bevon Jacobs, Michael Bracewell (captain), Zak Foulkes, Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry, Ish Sodhi.

Australia: Mitchell Marsh (captain), Travis Head, Matthew Short, Tim David, Alex Carey (wicketkeeper), Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Owen, Ben Dwarshuis, Xavier Bartlett, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.
