Sydney Thunder vs Sydney Sixers Betting Tips and Predictions
Go through our best betting tips in Australia for this match. We cover recent form, potential line-ups, head-to-head records and a lot more when highlighting our best bets for this fixture.
Shadab Khan for Top Sydney Thunder Bowler
With more than 100 wickets in T20I cricket and 300-plus in T20 competition overall, Khan is one of the best leg-spinners in this format. He took the key wickets of Rehan Ahmed and Ben McDermott against Hobart recently and is nicely poised to be his team’s top wicket-taker in this match, too. Conditions in Sydney should suit him again. Pick Khan to be the Thunder’s top bowler here at 5.00 with bet365.
Jack Edwards has risen to the top of the Sixers’ run-scoring ranks this season despite batting as low as sixth position in the order. He’s doing a lot better than Babar Azam and other stars higher than him in the batting order. Edwards put in 46 not out against the Scorchers and 32 against the Strikers. Perhaps they could get him up to five or four this time. Pick Edwards to be the Sixers’ top run-scorer in this BBL derby. He is still a long price at 12 with bet365 in this market and it could pay off nicely.
It is key you get the best odds possible for your wager. Comparing prices with the best bookies for cricket betting and wagering on the top price is a quick way to get a higher return should your bet win. We compared the match odds with some of our top bookmakers to highlight how odds can differ.
The Sixers are the favourites and are best priced with bet365 at 1.80. If you think the Thunder can beat the Sixers, you can back the Thunder at 2.05 with Unibet.
Sydney Thunder will go into this match in the wake of a four-wicket defeat to the Hobart Hurricanes, while Sydney Sixers suffered back-to-back defeats to the Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers.
With both teams still looking to get off the mark this BBL season, we are in for an intriguing Sydney derby this week. They have four Big Bash titles between them, but not a single win yet this month.
While there is plenty of focus on the local talent on display, there is no denying the firepower brought by the international stars. The Thunder have England’s Sam Billings and Pakistan’s Shadab Khan, while the Sixers sport Pakistan’s Babar Azam.
Azam, though, needs to get on top of things – and quickly. He only has 11 runs to show for his two BBL matches so far. Opposition bowlers such as Daniel Sams and Chris Green will be keen to consign him to a third failure here.
Team News
It will be interesting to see if the Thunder retain the same XI that lost to the Hurricanes. England seamer Reece Topley should be key, but needs to bounce back from a poor performance against Hobart.
The Thunder will demand more of their middle order. Billings and sidekick Oliver Davies also flopped against the Hurricanes, failing to capitalise on the good start provided by the top order.
One of the best left-arm seamers in the BBL is Ben Dwarshuis, who has had a good run for Australia in ODI and T20I cricket. His international experience at domestic level will be important.
Sixers captain Moises Henriques has vast experience in the BBL and is one of the strongest tacticians in the tournament. Opposite number Green will have his work cut out for him in trying to match Henriques’ tactics.
Predicted Line-ups:
Thunder: Sam Konstas, Matthew Gilkes, Cameron Bancroft, Oliver Davies, Sam Billings (wicketkeeper), Shadab Khan, Daniel Sams, Chris Green (captain), Nathan McAndrew, Tanveer Sangha, Reece Topley.
Sixers: Daniel Hughes, Babar Azam, Josh Philippe (wicketkeeper), Moises Henriques (captain), Jordan Silk, Jack Edwards, Ben Dwarshuis, Hayden Kerr, Joel Davies, Mitchell Perry, Jafer Chohan.
