SportsBetting is one of the oldest betting sites in Australia. They have a long tradition, however, the site also looks very dated. One more thing I didn't like at SportsBetting is the fact that they don't really have any special betting feature. Because of all that, I strongly recommend looking at other bookmakers, such as bet365.
Dave

SportsBetting is one of the oldest online bookmakers around, dating back from 1998. They offer well-priced  odds and great customer support, but the overall package isn’t nearly as good as what other top bookmakers have to offer.

If you want the best possible betting experience, we suggest you take a look at what our experts have to say about bet365. They are much better than SportsBetting in almost every aspect.

  • Great racing coverage
  • iOS and Android apps
  • Straightforward site
  • No live streaming
  • No live betting
  • No special features
  • Site looks dated

SportsBetting Overview

sportsbetting homepage

SportsBetting is a 100% Australian bookmaker with a long history. They started way before online betting was even a thing around here. What I like the most about SportsBetting Australia is how they have managed to stand firm to their basic principle – “No Gimmicks. Just great fixed odds betting”.

When it comes to racing betting, this bookmaker is a real deal. SportsBetting is focused on local events, but they do offer a solid range of international races as well. You’ll find both harness and thoroughbred, meaning that every racing punter should be satisfied. However, their international offer still isn’t nearly as good as what bet365 or Unibet have in place.

SportsBetting proudly points out that their fixed odds are amongst the best in the business. I’ll examine that in-more depth down-below in an odds comparison test, which will show some surprising results.

Their sports selection is also good. There are around 20 sports on offer, including all of Australia’s most popular leagues, such as the AFL and NRL. SportsBetting also offers a nice selection of international events. Most of the major US leagues are there as well. Again, they can’t compare with big international bookies, which usually offer hundreds of sports leagues from around the world.

SportsBetting Horse Racing

sportsbetting horse racing

One thing is for sure – the SportsBetting site won’t win any beauty contests. But when it comes to content and usability, it’s a whole different storey. Their entire horse racing punting offer is listed on the left side of the home page.

You can see what races are next to go or check out what events are scheduled over the following days. Even though the interface looks dated, I still haven’t had any issues finding horses I want to bet. Everything is very straightforward, without too many extra features to distract you. But still, it would be nice if they update the design since now it looks like something from the ’90s.

SportsBetting Australia offers all of the popular racing markets, including the full range of exotics, such as Quinella, Trifecta and Exacta. You’ll also find markets like Win/Place, Fixed Each Way, TopFluc or Best of the Best, as well as Best Tote, Best of Two Totes and Middle Tote. There aren’t any novelty markets, but in my opinion, which may be a problem for some punters.

Horse Racing Odds Comparison

Even though they claim to have the best odds on the market, our test showed that SportsBetting falls behind their top competitors. However, this test isn’t conclusive, so always do your own research before betting.

Sports Betting

sports betting with sportsbetting

This operator offers a solid selection of sports. As soon as you enter the website, you’ll see the list of games that are about to start, while the full list of sports is on the left side of the screen. You’ll have to scroll a bit to find it since horse racing and greyhound betting is always on top.

SportsBetting Australia covers all of the most important Australian and international leagues, meaning that you won’t miss out on any major event if you decide to join them. However, they don’t have a deep selection of niche sports, as you would usully find at other top bookies.

Again, the interface looks like it was designed in 2004, which makes it a lot less attractive. However, I like how the sports pages are organised. You’ll see win, line and over/under markets for each game by default, which can save you a lot of time manually searching for those bets. If you want to see more markets, just expand the tab.

Sports Betting Odds Comparison

SportsBetting came last once again. But keep in mind that I did this test based on only one game, which means that results could be slightly different if we were looking at some other event.

SportsBetting App – Android and iOS

sportsbetting app

The apps got a fresh design that looks much more modern than the website. It’s still not the match for the best betting applications around, but it’s pretty good.

However, they managed to keep the same structure, so it wasn’t a problem for me to move around. All of the apps have the same range of odds and markets as on desktop, meaning that you won’t miss out on anything when betting on the go with the SportsBet app.

I use the iOS app almost every day, and so far, everything works as advertised. The app is snappy and easy to use, so even complete beginners shouldn’t have a hard time figuring it out. You’ll see the upcoming games on the home page, while the full offer is divided between ‘Sports’ and ‘Racing’ tabs. In case you want to deposit, withdraw or access your account settings, enter the ‘Account’ tab on the far right.

The Android app looks and feels exactly the same as the iOS one. The only difference is that you’ll have to download it directly from the site. In case you’re not sure how to do it, take a look at the guide below.

How to download the SportsBetting Android app?

  1. Go to the ‘Mobile Betting’ page by clicking the button in the top menu
  2. Click on the download button
  3. Enter the security setting on your phone and enable ‘Unknown Sources’
  4. Click on the SportsBetting Android v2.xx.apk file in ‘Downloads’ to install the app
  5. Once the app is installed, you can start playing

Another option is to use their web-based app. It looks even simpler than the native apps, which makes it perfect for placing quick bets on the go. You don’t have to download anything. Just head to their site on your phone’s browser, and you’ll be good to go.

Banking Methods

SportsBetting covers all of the basic Australian payment methods. You can deposit via POLi, BPAY, credit/debit cards or Bank Transfer. Unfortunately, SportsBetting isn’t one of the PayPal bookmakers.  This selection hasn’t blown your mind, but it should be enough to please most punters. I would love to see them add at least one e-wallet since they are so convenient for online betting.

Their list of withdrawal options is also super short. You can get your winnings either via credit/debit cards or Bank Transfer. On a positive side, my money was usually on my account in 2 or 3 days.

My advice is to always request a withdrawal before 3 pm, so they can process it the same day. Also, don’t forget to verify your account and cards. You can’t perform any transactions at SportsBetting before going through an identity check.

  • Deposit Methods: POLi, BPAY, Credit/Debit Cards and Bank Transfer
  • Withdrawal Methods: Credit/Debit Cards and Bank Transfer

Live Streaming

SportsBetting doesn’t offer a live streaming feature. So, in case you like to watch live sports and place bets at the same time, you should visit some other betting site. My recommendation is to try bet365.

They are easily the best bookmaker for live streaming in Australia. You can watch numerous sports and racing events on both desktop and mobile. If you want to learn more about bet365’s live streaming offer, check out our in-depth review. We explain everything about live streaming as well.

Live Betting – Not Available

At the time of writing this review, SportsBetting wasn’t offering live wagering. I’m a huge fan of in-play betting, so this is a big minus in my books. In case you like to place live bets, try visiting Unibet. In my opinion, they have the best in-play betting platform in Australia.

From user-friendliness to the selection of sports and markets, Unibet has done everything right. Take a look at our analysis of Unibet to learn more about what they have on offer. If you’re new to all of this, we also have a step-by-step guide on how to start with live betting.

Customer Support – Quick and Helpful

Customer support is one of the things I like the most about SportsBetting Australia. They are fast and very professional, but also have a few thins that I didn’t apreciate.

While they used to offer 24/7 support, SportsBetting’s customer support is now only available from 7:30 am to 10:30 pm. This is definitely a minus, even though the working hours are extensive enough to cover you in most cases.

The easiest way to get in touch with support agents is via live chat. Just click on the orange button in the lower right corner on desktop or mobile to start the conversation. Agents will usually respond within a few minutes, which is as good as it gets.

The thing I really like here is that you can even contact SportsBetting over Twitter or Facebook. I have sent them a message via Facebook Messenger a couple of times, and they treated it the same as it was from their own live chat. This is a huge plus in my books since issues get resolved in record time.

Don’t forget that there is also an option to call their helpline. The last option is to send them an email. However, it usually comes with longer waiting times. That’s why I advise you to stick to the instant methods.

There is also an FAQs page available, so make sure to give it a look before contacting customer support. It can be useful for solving some of the smaller problems.

Safety at SportsBetting Australia

SportsBetting is a well-known brand with a very long history, so you can be sure that they are reliable. This bookmaker holds an official license from Australia’s Northern Territory Government. On top of that, SportsBetting has all of the usual safety features, such as 2048-bit encryption, installed on the website. It all means that their betting products are fair and that your sensitive data is protected from any third-party interference.

Being a licensed bookmaker means that SportsBetting has to have all sorts of tools to ensure their customers are gambling responsibly. You’ll have access to things like Self-Exclusion and Deposit Limits, so don’t hesitate to use them. Even I take advantage of these tools from time to time, especially when there are many exciting sports events around all at once. Also, note that there are phone numbers of a few agencies that deal with problem gambling, such as Gambling Help Online, so feel free to give them a call if needed.

Conclusion

SportsBetting.com.au is a solid bookmaker. I like them because they got all the basics right. You won’t find any shiny special deals or tons of betting features, only a very simple betting website. The lack of live betting is a huge issue for me, so I hope they’ll address it anytime soon.

But as I pointed a few times in my SportsBetting review, they don’t offer much more apart from basic sports and racing betting. If you want anything more than that, I suggest you take a look some other top Australian betting sites.
