- Deposit Methods: Credit/Debit Cards, Bank Transfer, Cheques, POLi, BPAY and Cash
- Withdrawal Methods: Credit/Debit Cards and Bank Transfer
If you’re into horse racing betting, TopSport is a nice choice. However, my overall impression wasn’t that positive. From shortlist of payment methods to lack of live streaming, TopSport still has a lot of things to improve. They just aren’t as good as well-known bookmakers like bet365.
I have tested every aspect of this bookmaker and listed the impressions in my TopSport review. Here you can find everything you’ll need to make an informed decision about joining TopSport.
- Solid racing coverage
- Fast website
- TopSport accepts very high stakes
- No live streaming
- No live chat support
- Outdated design
- No e-wallets
TopSport Overview
TopSport is a bookmaker with a long tradition that reaches all the way back to the early 90s. They were an on-course bookmaker before going online in 1998, which makes them one of the oldest online bookmakers in Australia. The Merlehan family founded this company, and they run it since the beginning. I like the fact that TopSport has stayed a 100% Australian until this day.
TopSport kept to its basic principles through all of these years. Here you can expect to get excellent customer support and racing coverage that can stand shoulder to shoulder with what any other top operator has to offer. Unlike big corporate bookmakers, TopSport still gives you the feel of betting with a family company that sincerely cares for its customers.
One more thing to keep in mind is that TopSport is known for being very flexible when it comes to the size of bets. They like to say that “no bet is too big or too small”, so feel free to contact customer support and negotiate the terms. TopSport isn’t afraid to accept huge stakes, which makes it an excellent place for high rollers.
When it comes to their betting offer, TopSport is somewhat limited. Horse racing is their main focus, so you can expect to see a very comprehensive selection of local and international events. Sports betting offer is mich waker, so I believe that most of the experienced punters will not be pleased.
TopSport Horse Racing
As I mentioned already, horse racing betting is what TopSport does best. The homepage is filled with the upcoming races, meaning that your next bet is usually just one click away. You can easily switch tabs to check out what events are scheduled for the following days. For the full selection, click on the ‘Racing’ button in the main menu.
TopSport has a good racing coverage that includes both domestic and international events. From Australia and New Zealand to the US and South Korea, this bookmaker does have it all. The best thing is that everything happens on the same page, meaning that you won’t even have to wait for the site to reload when browsing around.
The design doesn’t look that modern, but everything is well placed, so I haven’t had any issues finding my bets. This is very important when dealing with a site that offers so many racing markets.
Apart from the usual stuff, like Win/Place and Top Fluc, there are also a plethora of advanced bets such as Quinella, Exacta, Trifecta, First Four, Best Tote, Middle Tote and so on. On top of that, you can also try things like Best of the Best Premium and Jokey Challenge. TopSport even offers in-depth form guides for each race to help you make the best betting decisions. TopSports even mention that they have special betting offers, but you’ll have to register to check them out.
Horse Racing Odds Comparison
I have put TopSport against some of the best racing betting sites in Australia just to see how good they actually are. As you can see from the table below, TopSport falls behind both Unibet and Palmerbet, which shows that they still have a lot of things to improve.
But keep in mind that the test is based on only one race, meaning that results will differ for other bets. That’s why it would be smart to do it again by yourself before every bet, just to make sure you’re getting the best deal.
Our Winnie | 3.60 | 4.00 | 4.20 |
Bye See | 16.00 | 15.00 | 17.00 |
Ondo Pasa | 5.50 | 5.50 | 5.50 |
Happy Candy | 3.40 | 3.50 | 3.60 |
Hard Lady | 4.40 | 4.00 | 4.00 |
Time To Dazzle | 6.50 | 6.50 | 6.50 |
Sensacova | 15.00 | 11.00 | 11.00 |

Sports Betting with TopSport
Here you’ll find around 20 different sports on offers, including all of Australia’s most popular leagues, like NRL and AFL. They also cover a few niche sports, as well as all of the top foreign competitions, like NBA, NFL and English Premier League. However, their sports offer is still far behind what top Aussie bookies like bet365 and Unibet have in place.
You can easily switch to the ‘Sport’ tab on the homepage to reveal all of the upcoming events. The other option is to choose the sport you like from the menu on the left and browse the full selection of markets.
I was pleasantly surprised with the range of markets they offer. All sports are well covered, but the variety of bets on Australian leagues is unmatched. At the time of writing this review, they were offering around 400 markets on AFL matches and over 200 for all NRL clashes. Yes, you read that right, over 400 AFL betting markets! Plus, I like the fact that they list win, line and over/under bets right beside the pairs, which can save you a lot of time searching through their immense offer.
Sports Odds Comparison
As you can see from the table below, TopSport’s odds just aren’t as good as what their competitors have to offer. They fall behind both BlueBet and Unibet, so it’s safe to say that TopSport don’t have top of the market prices.
Melbourne Storm | 1.20 | 1.18 | 1.16 |
Manly Sea Eagles | 4.20 | 5.10 | 5.40 |
Overround | 107.1% | 104.4% | 104.7% |
TopSport App – Fast and Simple
The TopSport mobile website has the same outdated design as its desktop counterpart. You only have sports and racing tabs on the homepage, with the upcoming events on top. That makes it very easy to place a quick bet on the go.
In case you want to browse what else TopSport has on offer, or you want to access your account settings, open the main menu in the upper left corner. The web-based app features the full range of odds and markets, but if you prefer native sports betting apps, note that they are available for both iOS and Android.
I regularly use the iPhone app, but for the sake of this review, I also tested the Android version. Both of these apps work great and have the same structure as the desktop sportsbook. Not to mention that you’ll get the same range of sports and racing markets on all devices. The only difference is that you’ll have to download TopSport Android app directly from their site.
Live Betting – Not Good Enough
TopSport offers a below-average live betting platform. It’s far from the best I have ever seen, but it might be able to do the trick if you’re craving some in-play action. They cover a solid range of popular sports, including all of the most popular ones, like NRL, AFL, soccer and so on.
The selection of live markets also isn’t that great. In most cases, they fall far behind market leaders, such as bet365 or Unibet. However, the interface is straightforward and very snappy, meaning that you’ll be able to find all of the in-play bets with relative ease.
Everything TopSport has to offer in this regard is below average. The live betting section won’t blow your mind, but it should be good enough for casual bettors. The range of markets and sports just isn’t as comprehensive as at some other top Australian bookmakers.
As you may know already, Australian bookmakers are legally forbidden from accepting live bets over the internet. So, if you want to place an in-play wager, you’ll have to pick up the phone and give them a call. In case you’re new to all of this, take a look at the guide below where I explain how to start live betting with TopSport.
How to place a live bet at TopSport?
- Go to the ‘In-Play’ page
- Find the live market you like
- Call 1800 867 7768 and state your bet
- Your wager will be live now
Live Streaming
At the time of writing this review, TopSport doesn’t have live streaming. Since I’m a huge fan of watching live sports at betting sites, this is a big minus in my books. The lack of live streaming may be the biggest downside of TopSport, so I hope that they add this feature anytime soon.
If you’re as into live streaming as I am, check out bet365. They have the best streaming platform in Australia that works perfectly on both mobile and desktop. To learn more about betting with bet365, take a look at our in-depth review, or check out some of the other options.
- Watch and bet live on horses
- The only betting exchange
- Shorter selection of sports events
Payment Methods
TopSport has a limited selection of banking methods. You can make a deposit via credit/debit cards, bank transfer, cheques, POLi or BPAY. Additionally, there is the option to deposit cash at any Westpac branch.
Note that you can only withdraw your winnings via credit/debit card you have previously used, or via bank transfer. Most of the Aussie punters are familiar with these payment methods, so I believe almost everyone will know how to use them.
Also, don’t forget to verify your account as soon as you register. TopSport will not allow you to make any money transactions before you do so. Don’t worry, it’s a very simple process. Just send them a scan of one of your personal documents, and they’ll finish everything else.
Customer Support – No Live Chat
Another thing that I dislike about TopSport is that they don’t offer live chat customer support. I strongly believe that live chat is the easiest way to get in touch with the support agents, so I hope they enable it in the near future.
However, if something is urgent, feel free to give them a call at any time. TopSport support is active 24/7, which is fantastic! The other option is to send them an email, but keep in mind that you’ll probably wait up to 24 hours for a reply.
This bookmaker proudly points out that they have one of the best customer support teams on the market, and I think they’re right. The agents are very friendly and professional, so I was always able to solve all of the issues in record times. There is also a list of FAQs, but it’s not particularly extensive. It covers only 13 questions, so I usually go straight to the phone support whenever there is a problem.

Safety at TopSport
TopSport is a very safe bookmaker with a 20 years-long tradition of excellence. They hold an official NSW betting license, meaning that everything they do is 100% legal and fair. Since we’re leaving a lot of our personal data when registering a betting account, it’s good to know that TopSport site is protected with the latest SSL encryption. It guarantees that you’re completely safe when betting with this bookmaker.
They’re also big on promoting responsible gambling. You can find contact details of a few institutions that deal with problem gambling on the TopSport site, such as Gambling Help NSW. You also have tools like Self-Exclusion and Pre-Commitment on your disposal. Don’t hesitate to use them if you tend to get distracted while betting. I use them from time to time as well, so there is no reason why you shouldn’t give them a try if needed.
Final Verdict
I already mentioned in my TopSport review how much I love the vibe of this betting site. The very notion that they are open to negotiate the size of the wager makes me feel like I’m betting with a friendly, local bookmaker. But when it comes to the sheer quality of their betting products, they are still way behind all of the top betting sites in Australia.
There are quite a few downsides, like the lack of live streaming and live chat support. If you want to enjoy modern betting features or great odds, then you’ll be much better off with a more solid bookmaker.
