Favourite Opetaia was last seen stopping Claudio Squeo in June, which followed his KO success over David Nyika at the start of the year. Opetaia has since been left frustrated at his attempts to tempt fellow cruiserweight champion Zurdo Ramirez into a unification bout and instead turns his attention to ending the year on a high by seeing off mandatory challenger Huseyin Cinkara.
