Cameron Green for Top Australia Batter

Concerns over Green’s form with the bat were largely quietened against the West Indies recently. He put in scores of 51, 56 not out, 11, 55 not out and 32 for a player of the series performance. In this series against the Proteas, his first dig was a solid 35 before falling for just nine in the second. All-rounder Green isn’t bowling at the moment, so needs to stand out with the bat. He is doing just that and is well positioned again to be Australia’s top run-scorer in this match. Bet on him to do so at 5.50 with Unibet. These are solid odds.

Kagiso Rabada for Top South Africa Bowler

Rabada had not played international cricket in almost two months prior to this series – and looked well rested and firing in the first two matches of this series. More than 10 percent of Rabada’s 74 T20I wickets have come against the Aussies. He took another wicket and proved reasonably economical in the second fixture. He is familiar with the opposition after years of playing against and with them in the IPL. Anticipate another big performance from Rabada, who is priced at 3.50 by bet365 to be South Africa’s top bowler in this match.

Glenn Maxwell for Player of the Match

Say what you want about Maxwell, whose form has ebbed and flowed for an extended period, but he is still one of Australia’s greatest T20I cricketers. Backing him in the player of the match markets is often a good bet. He’ll have the opportunity to perform with bat and ball. Maxwell had an important role to play with the ball against the West Indies recently and, characteristically, put in a string of flashy cameos with the bat. He will probably open the bowling again and bowl his full lot of four overs – that’s exactly what happened in the previous fixture and he took two wickets. Pick him to be the player of the match here at 12.00 with Unibet – long but worthwhile odds.

Australia vs South Africa Betting Preview

We should be in for a cracking series decider after South Africa bounced back from defeat in the first match to take victory in the second. This, indeed, a pressure fixture for two teams preparing for more of the same pressure in next year’s T20 World Cup.

The Aussies and Proteas will be experiencing international cricket in Cairns for the first time. Conditions will play a role – they’re filled with relatively unknown factors, as was the case in Darwin. The team that adapts the quickest will likely come out on top.

Both teams will probably have one eye on their upcoming ODI series as well. Expect to see some tactical tweaks and personnel changes that point to this. As much as it’s about winning this T20I decider, it’s also about prepping for the one-dayers to follow.

Australia will want to get a handle on how to handle Dewald Brevis. He was in sensational form in the second T20I, crunching the country’s highest score in this format. The battle between Brevis and Ben Dwarshuis could prove particularly entertaining again.

The Aussies could be accused of relying too much on Tim Davids these days. He’s batting higher up the order now and still scoring the bulk of their runs. His evident transition from late-order finisher to middle-order kingpin continues to intrigue fans and critics alike. The Proteas, of course, will want him out early.

While the pitch will be fresh and effectively full of pace, spin could be instrumental here. Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell, again with the new ball, are the ones to watch among the Australian unit. For South Africa, Nqaba Peter has another chance to express is talent on the world stage.

Team News

Australia have lost Matthew Short, Mitchell Owen and Lance Morris, so their XI will certainly include change. This could be Aaron Hardie’s cue to fill in for Owen.

South Africa won’t likely change their winning XI, but could be tempted to return spinning all-rounder George Linde to the team in a bid for more balance between bat and ball.

Predicted Line-ups

Australia: Mitchell Marsh (captain), Travis Head, Cameron Green, Tim David, Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Hardie, Alex Carey (wicketkeeper), Ben Dwarshuis, Sean Abbott, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.

South Africa: Aiden Markram (captain), Ryan Rickelton (wicketkeeper), Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Rassie van der Dussen, Corbin Bosch, Kagiso Rabada, Nqabayomzi Peter, Kwena Maphaka, Lungi Ngidi.
