What Are the Odds Of Weird & Wonderful Things Happening To YOU?
A new study conducted by our team at AussieBet, a leading platform for betting sites in Australia, aims at finding the odds of the strangest and most unlikely things that can happen to you, and some of the results are likely to shock you!
Have you played the lottery recently and wondered why you didn’t win? Well, according to our research, 39% of you have played in the past two years, but only SEVEN PERCENT of you (yes, just 7%) actually believe that you’ll win. To show if this is a sensible reservation, we’ve created this piece of content, just for you.
A huge 85% of you correctly identified that you are statistically more likely to be struck by lightning than win the lottery, so we have bad news for the 15%.
Do you avoid walking under ladders? Never step on three drains in a row? Perhaps you go searching for 4-leaf clovers? Well, you’re not alone. We found that as many as 18% of Australians are superstitious, and 40% of these said it affects their day-to-day life.
And that’s not all; 32% of Australians admit to owning a good luck charm – with clothing found to be the most popular item. Everyone has a pair of lucky pants though, right? No? Just us? So anyway, what is more likely than winning the lottery?
We know that we’re not famous for our soccer – and it’s far from our national sport – but even so, the odds of Australia winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup seem harsh. Did you know that there’s actually a higher chance of you DATING A MILLIONAIRE than this happening? Or even being ambidextrous? Which, incidentally, might come in handy when dating a millionaire.
Who needs soccer when you can win a gold medal though, right? Well, as Australians, we are technically born with a higher chance of winning an Olympic gold than the average for the rest of the world. That’s just the appetizer though – statistically Australians also have a better chance of becoming an astronaut than the rest of the world!
Do you want the good news or the bad news? The good news is that you do have a chance of winning the Oz Lotto Jackpot if you play. The bad news is that the odds of you winning are so slim that you are actually more likely to get killed by a kangaroo or be made into a literal saint (sorry).
Unfortunately, you are even less likely to win the Powerball Jackpot. In fact, you are more likely to get killed by an asteroid or by an errant vending machine. But someone has to win it, right?
Thankfully, you are much better placed to win the jackpot on a scratchcard, even if there is a better chance of having identical quadruplets or being dealt a royal flush in poker.
Speaking of luck, if you are the type of person that believes in 4-leaf clovers, then you might need to hold tight if you want to be in with a chance of finding one. Although you’re a smidge more likely to find one of those than you are to find a pearl in an oyster, both are pretty unlikely.
If you want to impress your friends with a spot of sport, there are few better ways than bowling a perfect game or getting a hole in one in golf. In fact, if you start now, you might have achieved either by the time you are 80, as you would need to bowl a lot of times (like, a lot) or play golf for the rest of your life to stand a chance.
But hey, there’s no harm in trying right?
Methodology
- For the survey, 3,596 Australians over the age of 18 were polled on some questions. All respondents were unincentivized.
